| Analyzing March Madness |
| A WebQuest for High School Statistics Students |
 |
Introduction |
It's called "March Madness" because this is the time
of year when the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) holds its Final Four
Championship games for Mens and Womens College Basketball. The NCAA consists of
approximately 1200 colleges and universities. The schools are divided into regions
(Midwest, Mideast, North, South, West, and East) and are ranked within those regions.
These rankings are referred to as "seeds". The top 16 teams in each region are eligible
to compete in the championship tournament.
This activity will have you researching these tournaments, gathering data, and formulating
some statistical analysis. |
